Frequently Asked Questions

Below you'll find a few of the most frequently asked questions regarding the inspection and maintenance of fire extinguishers and kitchen hood systems. If you have any questions, please contact us! We're here to help!
01
Does my fire extinguisher REALLY need inspection and maintenance (certification)?
YES! The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) states that all portable fire extinguishers be inspected on a monthly basis (NFPA 10, Section 7.2.) and maintained by a licensed fire protection company on an annual basis. (NFPA 10, Section 7.3) After the annual maintenance is performed a certification tag is then placed on the fire extinguisher.
02
I bought a Fire Extinguisher from the store. Does it still need certification?
YES! Even though you bought the extinguisher from a store, the NFPA Standards still apply, and it is required to be inspected, maintained and tagged according to those standards.
03
How often does my Pre-Engineered Kitchen System require inspection and maintenance (certification)?
An inspection and servicing of the kitchen hood fire-extinguishing system by properly trained and qualified persons is required at least every 6 months [see NFPA 96(98), Sec. 8-2; MSFC(07), Sec. 904.11.6.4].
• This service must include a check of all actuation components, including remote manual pull stations, mechanical or electrical devices, detectors, actuators and fire-actuated dampers to ensure that they are in operable condition [see NFPA 96(98), Sec. 8-2.1]. A visual inspection of fire alarm interconnect switches is also required [see NFPA 72(99), Table 7-3.1].
